Position Title: Building Substitute Teacher - Full Time
Wage/Hour Status: Exempt: GED or HS Diploma - $100 per day
Has College Degree - $110 per day
Certified - $120 per day
Reports to: Director/Principal
School: Campus Assigned

QUALIFICATIONS
Education: High School Graduate and 30 hours of college is preferred

SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
• Ability to instruct children assigned

• Excellent communication skills


PHYSICAL ABILITIES
• Ability to stand for at least thirty minutes outside within 15 feet of students
• Ability to assist students tying shoes and button or unbutton coats

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

A Building Substitute is employed by Arrow Academy and assigned to the school district with the explicit purpose of filling last-minute unfilled positions daily. The employee is required to report to their assigned school building every school day but may also be asked to report to other school buildings within the district as needed. Building substitutes support the work of the building and will be given daily assignments by the building principal. The assignments will vary and can include assignments to cover any classroom or grade level at the school. The assignments can also include duties (lunch, recess, hall, dismissal, etc.) and/or covering for instructional assistants.

 

Building substitutes are expected to:

  1. Commit to remaining in the position for the complete school year
  2. Commit to reporting to work on time and for complete work days
  3. Commit to learning the rules and procedures of the district and the school; and, following and enforcing them
  4. Work at the direction of the building principal and accept a variety of assignments
  5. Interact with students, colleagues, and families in a professional and respectful manner
  6. Supervise students. Enforce the school's rules including safety rules
  7. Prepare for assignments by reviewing curriculum and lesson plans
  8. Be communicative with supervisors and colleagues about work-related issues
  9. Be able to work successfully in a fast-paced environment.
  10. Commitment to adhering to a work environment that values and supports all students and families


Student discipline
• Maintain classroom discipline conducive to a learning environment
• Provide redirection and disciplinary alternatives to correct student behavior

Management
• Maintain accurate records of student attendance
• Compile all records as requested
• Supervise students on field trips and events at the school and off site, if necessary

WORKING ENVIRONMENT
• Maintain emotional control under the stress of instructional operations
• Be flexible in assisting others as requested

Retirement is through the Teacher Retirement System (TRS) of Texas and not Social Security.

TRS requires five years of participation before any retirement funds are vested. Texas Workers

Compensation covers workers in this position
